RE: Legislation Introduced to Abolish the IRS

SUMMARY: Legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives that would abolish the IRS.
Legislation that would abolish the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has been introduced by Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) in the House of Representatives. The bill, H.R. 25, the “Fair Tax Act of 2017” is similar to legislation introduced by Rep. Woodall in previous Congresses.

NTEU is strongly opposed to this misguided legislation and will work with our supporters in the House to block its enactment. Furthermore, we will continue to underscore to Congress the important role the IRS serves in administering our Nation’s tax laws and assisting taxpayers in understanding and meeting their tax obligations, and the importance of providing the agency with the resources it needs to carry out its mission.
