Government Funded Through End of Fiscal Year

Despite the threat of a veto, the omnibus appropriations measure was signed by the president funding federal agencies for the remainder of fiscal year (FY) 2018 and preventing a third government shutdown in recent months.

This $1.3 trillion funding bill stems from last month’s bipartisan budget deal addressing sequestration by lifting both defense and nondefense discretionary spending caps for fiscal years 2018 and 2019.

For the Internal Revenue Service, Congress is providing the agency with $11.4 billion for the 2018 fiscal year, a 1.7 percent increase from 2017. It also includes $320 million to implement the new tax

The omnibus provides CBP with $14 billion, a nearly 15 percent increase over fiscal year 2017 enacted spending. For years, NTEU has been alerting Congress about the severe staffing shortages at the ports of entry and the omnibus provides $7.6 million to hire more than 300 new Customs and Border Protection Officers.

“Some of the best news for federal employees is what is not in the omnibus,” National President Tony Reardon said. “No cuts in compensation, and no rolling back of due process that ensures frontline employees aren’t subject to arbitrary and unfair retaliation and favoritism.” View additional agency funding levels .
