Reardon Gives FMLA Basics

Over the course of your career, chances are you or a loved one may need to take leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Federal employees and other workers take FMLA leave for a variety of reasons—anything from a difficult pregnancy or the birth or adoption of a child, to caring for a family member or receiving treatment for a chronic health issue.

FMLA is designed to help working people balance their jobs and family care responsibilities, but to use it you need to first understand your rights. National President Tony Reardon outlined some of these rights in his latest “Know Your Facts” column in GovLoop.
Along with a brief guide on FMLA rights, Reardon also discusses whether you might be required to provide medical certification under FMLA and what documentation you may need.
